About 16 years ago, I started some rug making, but stopped and what I was making was put up in the attic. Earlier this month, I got it out again. There was a cushion some of my younger girls were doing, which I finished off. The rug I was working on, I've taken up again. Will post a pic of that when it's done and given to the daughter I was originally making it for :-). Also, I had a rug kit my dad started. Sadly he is no longer with us, so hubby has taken that project on :-)

Here is the cushion cover.

Feeling happy

My spinning wheel is up and running :-) It's back to square one as far as producing the yarn lol. Having began to produce something that could be called fairly passable on my drop spindle, it's now back to interesting looking yarn :-) Though not rope, which was my first drop spindle attempt efforts!!!
I also washed my first piece of fleece, and managed not to felt it. My machine has a 'hand wash wool' cycle, so I put a small amount in on that to see what would happen and it's all nice and soft and ready to be carded. Some of it is still drying. Photos to follow :-) Talking about drying fleece. I was trying to remember what the smell reminded me of, and it suddenly came to me. It reminded me of our Rottie when he was wet lol!!! It definitely has a 'wet dog' smell :-)

Spinning

So here is my latest with the drop spindle. I am now producing some pretty respectable stuff. Not perfect. But so much better than my earlier stuff :-)

Drop Spindle

Yesterday I went to a craft fair at Tyntesfield near Bristol. It was a Medieval one, and had spinning on demonstration. I got talking to a lovely lady who was there with her spinning wheel, and she sold me a drop spindle and some fleece for a fiver. I have to be honest, it's a lot harder to do than it looked, and I have so far been very good at making nice thick rope looking stuff lol. I am determined to learn this craft though, and will persevere seeing as I promised this lovely lady yesterday I would :-)
I also bought a felting kit. Again I was given a demonstration, and I got the picture she made as well :-) I'm going to hang on before doing that as I think my daughter will enjoy having a go as well :-) I though we could do that together :-)

My husband was pleased with the fair as there was some wood turning going on. I think we're both going to do a two day course and make a stool :-) I'm looking forward to that :-)

Made for me

I commissioned my very clever friend to make me a needle roll for my double pins, and this is the result. I am so happy with it :-)

My husband

My husband, Rich, enjoys woodwork. He has a wood turning lathe, and wants to get down to some serious wood turning. A few weeks ago he went to a friends workshop and made a bowl on the wood lathe his friend has there. Very proudly he bought it home, and I was really impressed. "What a lovely smell." says I as he walks through the door with it, waving it in the air. Within five minutes I had to ask him to put it somewhere well away from my smelling senses as it started to make my eyes water like anything. He's made it out of eucalyptus wood, which smelt really strong, and sadly I have reactions against things strong smelling scents :-( The next bowl will have to be made from slight smelling wood stuff!!
